Chasing passion is a flawed idea in today's society. Hawaii's infrastructure (energy, technology, buildings, roads, and more) is decrepit and the government is unwilling to resolve the pre-existing issues and fail to use taxpayers' money in good faith. It's this stifling of innovation and waste that has caused a huge outflux of Hawaii locals migrating to the other U.S. states and countries.

I have lived both with a long commute and without a commute in a downtown. I much prefer the shorter commute to the bigger property. You think life will be all that if you have a square of grass, but in reality, the kids don’t spend that much time on it, and you have another thing to maintain. And you all spend too much time in the car. If you cannot move up to more indoor space downtown, maximize what you have with all the great tips out there, and then go enjoy your free time out and about in town and at the beach.

Some years back many Hawaiians moved to Las Vegas. I am curious if most of them are still living in Las Vegas now. Mahalo.

As a security guard for 8 years, security is for losers. Trade hours of your life for money. No real benefits of working security. Get shit on by people while having no actual power to do anything. Basically a hall monitor. If you work security reflect on where you went wrong in your life.

I grew up in Hawaii and absolutely rice with every meal. I’m now 50 and was diagnosed pre-diabetic with hypertension two years ago. I cut rice out of my diet (along with other carbs and added sugar) and I’m much better now. Rice is now a treat (along with Mac salad). I miss it but everything in moderation. Not three meals a day.

Hawai'i, like anywhere, can be made to suit the life experiences that you are searching for, but it can easily be a prison in itself for others. It's what you dedicate and make it to be for yourself.

It's not the rice that is the problem. It is the saturated fat and processed foods. Processed meats such as Spam are known carcinogens. Type 2 DM is actually caused by intramuscular fat. Kauaʻi pidgin and Molokaʻi pidgin are thick. Never been over there but I have heard this over and over. Hawai'i pidgin was developed to be a dialect of English that all da kine could speak and understand.

I have heard Kānaka Maolis call pidgin "Broken English". Main people I heard speak it when I was in HI were the Mokes, the Men (blazing with Polynesian tattoos).

When state congress was in session I sent a proposal to a representative to address housing in Hawaii but they never responded. My proposal is designed for native Hawaiians and people who have lived on island for a certain time period. It used tourism as a spark to fund a program that affects housing. I lived in Waianae in the early 60's when I was growing up. I could walk to Pokai Bay in just minutes. I have fond memories of Waianae that have stayed with me my entire life.

I went on vacation to Hawaii about 16 years ago and I couldn't have been more disappointed. I had no idea there was that much poverty in Hilo. I think we may have gone to the wrong island. I'll stay on the mainland for my vacations. South Carolina and in particular North Carolina has really nice beaches and it's a lot closer for me. I wouldn't want to live in Hawaii; too expensive and being stuck on a rock. I don't think so. LOL. Hope you find a nice place to raise your children

I bought my condo in Makiki , in 2011. But it was a lease hold property. So in 2016, as an owner, I was given the opportunity to buy the fee. So I worked really hard on my credit score, worked to pay my bills down, and I was able to get a mortgage in 2017 to buy the fee. Now I own my condo and the lease hold turned to condo status last year. My poor condo needs a full renovation and I never had the money for that. I’ll either sell it soon or try get the money to renovate.

Sir, might I bring up: high beam drivers. Comes in two flavors: 1) normal height vehicles with their high beams on, or 2) lifted trucks on low beam lights. Either way, it's a nuisance, and downright dangerous. It's made worse by the ultra white headlights used on modded trucks.

Drove through there for the first time in 20 years today... and was shocked that the town has let squatters take over most the parks. Why should any pay attention to the law when they have blatant violations staring in their face everyday ? You completely missed what the mayor was saying... what he was saying was if you want us to stamp downtime don't raise a ruckus when we arrest someone. The citizens set the tone, you can't have soft on crime policies and expect low crime. The public has to support the clean up or it is doomed to fail.

Rice is totally not necessary! As someone of Chinese ethnicity myself, I grew up in it as well. However, for fitness reasons, awhile back, I decided to cut back on it completely. I ended up feeling sluggish, and even skinny fat! Now I just eat a moderate amount, and feel better than ever. A bit of carbs is still necessary!
